Grindle Pictures

I love writing! I write about what's going on with my husband and I, daily life nannying, and different photography sessions I have! From family photography to couples photography to kids photography, I love documenting it all.

Back story.

Ethan and Bethany Burt = Cutest couple ever!

Ethan and Bethany Burt = Cutest couple ever!

Hello! I wanted to share a little of my story with you today. The back story of how I got into photography is a fun one to share and I realize I haven’t been able to share it with many. It all began with Trevor and I choosing the Burt’s to be our wedding photographers. Ethan and Bethany Burt would always come into the coffee shop Trevor and I met at. (Yes. My husband and I met at a coffee shop! He was the barista and I came in asking for directions. It’s a cute story I’ll use for my next blog post ;)

Since Trevor worked at this coffee shop I would visit frequently and see Ethan and Bethany working there or meeting with couples. I knew who they were, but I had no idea if they knew who I was. I know they heard about me from Trevor sharing while they ordered their drinks. They are just amazing people like that, they stop for the people around them and listen. That is one of the many things I admire about them. So when it came time to choose a wedding photographer we knew we wanted them. Their style is timeless and classic, plus they are joy to be around! They were very intentional leading up to the wedding to get to know us and we were able to spend time with them as a couple. Bethany and I clicked right away as we communicated about wedding day details and found we had a lot in common. It’s funny that several people who know us both commented later that they just knew we would be friends. Sometimes I think to myself...I wish those people would have introduced us sooner! All that to say we love this couple and they have become dear friends. Shortly after our wedding I reached out to them to see if I could somehow be a part of their business and learn from them. I’ve always loved photography! I have a fine arts background and I took a photography class in college. Out of that experience I learned I loved creating compositions within a camera. I did several senior sessions and photographed some for my family. Years passed and I wasn’t intentional to pursue photography and I doubted my own ability. The Burt’s reignited my interest in photography and I knew I wanted to learn from them. So we met at the same coffee shop and I told them that I love what they do, I respect their work and I would love to be an intern or edit pictures for them. To my surprise they shared that their desire was to make me an associate photographer!!! I was shocked and immediately got giddy at the thought of pursuing photography. I was stunned by their faith in me and desire to help me pursue this dream. They hadn’t seen any of my work or what I was capable of, they just knew me and wanted to make me a part of their team. I’m so thankful for their faith in me and encouragement through this journey.

I’m stepping to into this new venture with confidence because of their support and belief in me. I always saw myself pursuing art full-time, now that dream that always felt distant and out of reach has become a reality! My work doesn’t feel like work, I love what I do! This job allows me to meet lovely people, hear their stories and capture an image of them that tells a story of who they are. In order to capture an authentic representation of who they are I want to get to know them in the process and be an active learner of who they are. My hope is that each interaction through this job would be less about business and more about people. I’m for people and I hope that through these interactions they would feel valued and encouraged. I want people to feel heard and seen. One of my favorite things to do is to ask questions! I love getting to know people and pulling out depth in conversation. I love when I can meet someone for the first time and getting them to talk about their passions. You can see them light up! I love sharing moments like that with people.

As I dream about the future my desire is that the people I work with would feel valued and that I can use my therapy background to put every person at ease. Before pursuing photography I worked as an Occupational Therapy Assistant in a school district. My dream would be to combine the skill of photography with my therapy knowledge. I would love to photograph kids with special needs to use my therapy experience to adapt the environment to fit their sensory needs. I still love working with kids, I’m currently an after school nanny and photographer. My hope is that I can be a resource to the families I photograph. I have a lot of dreams as I consider the possibilities with photography, but specializing with kids who have high needs would be a dream of mine. I’m passionate about people and I can’t wait to see who I meet though this experience! I’m thankful and expectant that I will hear some great stories along the way!
